Hey Tribe.
What exactly is The Black Enigma? In a simple explanation; we are an art and poetry showcase.
Our goal is to showcase the force of Black culture in an environment that praises those brave enough to tell their story on a platform.
But don’t other Art shows do the same!?
Yes, but The Black Enigma is more intimate in its essence. Don’t get us wrong we love art shows and showcases. I live for the liveliness in those moments. I also understand that the vibe at art shows can be more turn up and sometimes you really want a night where you can converse with the artist and poets. We believe that less is more.
Why did I choose the name THE BLACK ENIGMA?
In all transparency because I am black. I’m a black artist and a black woman.
The majority of our artist are products of the beauty that is Black culture whether they identify as Black or not. I wanted to create something for my tribe and the people who connect with that tribe.
Black art, aggressive art, protective art, sophisticated art and being Black as a whole is an enigma to most. The pride that we have gained in the past decade is to be celebrated. People all over the world have wondered for centuries and still can’t figure it out. That’s because Black is the beginning and end. Black is the absence of light to the complete absorption of light. We are literally the entire spectrum.
A little History.
We curated our first showcase on July 29th, 2017 in a small intimate gallery in Dallas Texas. Five dope artist, three dynamic poets. The turn out was amazing and we grew to such capacity that the Dallas Fire marshal had to shut us down. Now contrary to popular belief I was not sad or defended. I felt like this as a win because the artist that graced our walls that day solidified our goal. They felt appreciated in the space that was given.
Our second showcase was November 18th in a slightly larger space. We learned from our mistakes and made sure the Fire Marshall could not find a reason to shut us down this time. The event was perfect. The wine was flowing, conversations across generations were being had and connections were made. AND THAT IS THE ESSENCE OF THE BLACK ENIGMA.
“Your event was probably one of the classiest events I’ve attended in a while.“

The - "The" before a noun creates force. "The" indicates unique, best-known, most satisfying.
Black - The absorption of light. The color without hue. Black the color of mystery and protection. Black the color of strength. The color of power. The color of elegance, sophistication, aggression and authority.
Enigma - Inexplicable. Can not be explained but always pondered on. Something of strong obscurity
